NEWS FROM PARAMOUNT TENNIS CLUB – SEPTEMBER 2011 MIDWEST CHAMPIONSHIPS: Congratulations to Dawn Bonfiglio’s 6.0 mixed doubles team and John Clark’s 7.0 men’s super senior team – they are advancing to the Midwest Championship. Good try to Dan Mitoff’s 8.0 mixed team – everyone tied, so it came down to sets and they lost by one. Great job to all the teams, please take time to wish the Westlake and Medina teams good luck at the Midwest Championships! FRIDAY NIGHT MIXED DOUBLES: Paramount Westlake will be hosting mixed doubles on Friday, September 23rd from 7pm-9:30pm and Paramount Medina will be hosting a mixed doubles on Friday, September 30th 7-9:30pm. Cost: $17.50/members and $20.00/non-members. Everyone socializes afterwards, so bring an appetizer or sweet and your favorite beverage. Sign up sheets are at the front desk or call Westlake at 440-250-9081 or Medina at 330-239-1800 and they will get you signed up. CARDIO TENNIS: We will be resuming Cardio tennis in Medina on Mondays from 8:30-9:30am and Thursdays from 12:30pm – 1:30pm. Cost: $10.00/members and $12.00/non-members. Call the front desk to signup. Need a minimum of 4 participants to hold the class. Mark you calendars, next year we are going to host this tournament over Labor Day Weekend. We think hosting the tournament the weekend before the fall USTA combo season starts, will allow more people to participate and gives us 4 days to run the tournament, starting on Friday night and finishing on Monday – Labor Day. Paramount Medina’s next adult tournament will be held in January 2012 – over two weekends. One weekend is designed for all the singles event and then the following weekend for all the doubles events. Again, a new format that we think will enable more people to participate and make for running a more efficient tournament. NEW DAYTIME DRILL-WESTLAKE: Westlake has added a new Monday drill 9am – 10:30am at the 2.5/3.0 level. Zach Long will be teaching this drill – Westlake’s newest full-time teaching professional. FRIDAY INTERCLUB & MONDAY AA/AAA LEAGUES: The Akron area Friday interclub started on September 9thand the AA/AAA Monday league started on Monday, September 12th. If you are looking to get on a team in Westlake or Medina, I’m sure we can make room for you. Just call the front desk in Medina at 330-239-1800 and ask for Cindy or Westlake at 440-250-9081 and ask for Jill or Michelle. Medina has the following teams playing on Fridays – (2) 2.5 teams, (1) 3.0 team, (2) 3.5 teams and (1) 4.0+ team and 6.5 combo seniors on Wednesday. Westlake has (1) 3.0 team and (1) 4.0+. Both clubs are fielding AA and AAA teams on Mondays. You can visit the teams standings of the 15 participating clubs that play on Friday at www.akron.tenniscores.com and the Monday AA/AAA teams at www.northcoast.tenniscores.com. WESTLAKE MIXED DOUBLES COMPASS TOURNAMENT: Paramount Westlake will be holding their annual mixed doubles compass tournament on Friday, October 21st from 6-10PM. All levels of play are welcome. This is one night only event featuring 32 teams with the ultimate goal to “Win” a compass point. All 32 teams are guaranteed 4 rounds and if you win the 4th round you are in the finals. Cost: $25.00/person (includes court time, balls and pizza). BYOB – bring your own beverage. Call Westlake at 440-250-9081 or Medina at 330-239-1800 to sign up – deadline, October 19th. VIP WORLD TEAM TENNIS TICKETS: If your are interested in purchasing VIP World Team Tennis tickets (yes…$1,000/ticket) to attend the VIP pre-party and meet Elton John and Billie Jean King and get courtside seats, please contact Michelle Kuri atmkuri@paramounttennisclub.com for more information. The event is being held Thursday, October 27th at Cleveland Public Hall. Or call the front desk in Westlake at 440-250-9081. HIGH SCHOOL TENNIS LEAGUE: Paramount Medina and Westlake high school tennis league will be starting Sunday, October 23rd and run for 6 weeks with 5 weeks of matches and a final tournament the sixth week on Sunday, December 11th. You can sign up as an individual or a team. This league is open to members and non-members. The cost for the six week league is $120 for members and $150 for non-members. Each team needs four players each week – match format is 2 singles and 1 doubles match. Matches will be best 2 out of 3 sets; 3rd set will be a 10 point tie-breaker. Dates will be: October 23 October 30 November 6 November 27 December 4 December 11 JUNIOR SATURDAY NIGHT LEAGUE TENNIS: We will be resuming the monthly Saturday night junior league tennis in October. This is a great tune-up for juniors who are thinking about tournaments or anyone interested in more match play. Improve your skills while also having fun playing tennis. Dates: October 8th, November 5th and December 3rd from 4:00pm – 5:30pm and will be held at the Medina facility at 5041 Paramount Blvd in Medina. Cost: $18/ea or $50.00 for all three nights for members and $23.00/ea or $65.00 for all three nights for non-members. Call the front desk to register or email Dean Morse at dmorse@paramounttennisclub.com. JUNIOR TEAM TENNIS GOING TO SURPRISE, AZ TO PLAY FOR NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP!!!!!! Paramount Medina’s 14 and under team has advanced to the national championships in Arizona this year. In an effort to help with some of the expenses for the kids, we will be holding a raffle starting now through October 15th. If you are interested in purchasing a raffle ticket, email Dean at dmorse@paramounttennisclub.com and he can get a ticket to you. Some of the prizes include a Head Youtek Speed tennis racquet, a Head Monstercombi tennis bag, 2 signed Andre Agassi books called “Open”, 12 loge tickets at Quicken Loans Arena to see a Lake Erie Monsters hockey game, and many more prizes. Raffle tickets will be a $20 donation. Thanks!!! PIZZA, POP, AND TONS OF GAMES: Paramount Medina will be hosting a Pizza and game night on Saturday October 15thfrom 7:30-10:00pm put on by the Junior Team traveling to Arizona for the National Championships. There will be tons of games to be played from tennis to dodgeball to even a cornhole tournament. At the end of the night we will be pulling the winning tickets of the raffle prizes. This will be an exciting event for everyone. All ages are welcome and you can invite a friend to play as well. Please call ahead to reserve your spot. USTA GIRL’S JUNIOR TOURNAMENT: Paramount Medina will be hosting a Girl’s USTA singles tournament October 14th – 16th. Events include G(18-12)s, FMLC.
