NEWS FROM PARAMOUNT TENNIS CLUB – JANUARY 2012 HAPPY NEW YEAR: We hope everyone had a wonderful time over the holidays with friends and family and hope everyone has a happy and prosperous New Year. Paramount Medina’s Pre-New Year’s Eve Tennis party turned out to be a great time, with Shaun & Tracey Keenan finishing as the top winners in the compass tournament. The music provide by Deja Blue was fantastic. Great dance music and we had the dancers out that night. Everyone here at Paramount wants to thank you for supporting our clubs and look forward to 2012 being another great tennis year. MEN’S AND WOMEN’S SINGLE LEAGUE: Paramount Westlake will be starting their 3.0/3.5 women’s and 3.5/4.0 men’s single league in two weeks. This league operates as a self-scheduled league. Members interested in participating in the Westlake singles league should contact Todd Ashdown at tashdown@paramounttennisclub.com. USTA ADULT TOURNAMENT: Paramount Medina will be hosting an adult singles tournament January 13-15^th. Events include men’s and women’s Open singles, men’s 3.0-4.0 and women’s 2.5-4.0 singles, FMLC. Tournament ID – 856404812. Entry deadline is Tuesday, January 10^th,2012 at 11:59PM Eastern Time. Paramount Medina is also hosting an adult doubles tournament this weekend (entry now closed), January 8^th – 10^th with 150 players, participating in 172 events. Spectators welcome! WESTLAKE COMPASS TOURNAMENT: Paramount Westlake will be hosting a Women’s doubles compass tournament on Friday, January 13^th from 6pm – 10pm and a Men’s doubles compass tournament January 27^th. All levels are welcome. The cost is $25.00/per person for members and $30.00/per person for non-members – must be accompanied by a member. Fee includes court time, balls and pizza – please bring your own beverage. Entry deadline is Tuesday, January 10^th for the women’s and Tuesday, January 24^th for the men’s. NEW ADULT DRILLS : Medina Location: Shot of the Week Drill – Wednesdays 9-10am. Looking to work on one shot? Join Shaun Keenan to focus on a particular stroke. January and February signup sheets are at the front desk. Singles Strategy Drill – Wednesday 10-11am. Join Shaun Keenan and master singles strategy through tactical drills and point situations. Weekly signup sheets are at the front desk. USA 1-2-3 – We need 2 more participants for a Monday or Wednesday 6:30-7:30pm class. This is an adult beginner tennis class – great time to get your spouse or friends started in tennis. Adult 3.5 Drill – Wednesdays & Thursdays 11-12:30PM. Forming private groups for this time slot with Shaun Keenan and Dean Morse. Option to drill every week, every other week or once a month. Westlake Location: Men’s 3.0/3.5 Drill - Saturday 2-3:30pm. Join Zach Long for this weekly drill. Signup sheets are at the front desk. Men’s Senior Drill – Wednesday 2:30-4pm. Join Zach Long for this 3.0/3.5 men’s senior drill. Signup sheets are at the front desk. Two new USA 1-2-3 classes – Saturday 3:30-4:30pm and Mondays 10:30-11:30am. Great way to introduce tennis to your spouse and friends. Monthly Suds Drill – Friday, January 6^th from 6-7:30pm. 1 hour drill and ½ half hour of play and suds for socializing afterwards. JUNIOR PROGRAMS: The next junior session starts the week of January 2^nd at Westlake and Medina. JOHN CARROLL UNIVERSITY TENNIS FUNDRAISER: Paramount Medina will be hosting a Tennis Fundraiser for the Men’s & Women’s John Carroll Tennis teams. The event will be held on Sunday, January 29^th from 3-6PM. Cost: $25.00/per person. Enjoy and evening of fun social tennis with the John Carroll University tennis players. USTA SPRING COMBO & MIXED DOUBLES: It is time to start planning for Combo and Mixed Doubles teams for the Spring USTA league season. If you plan to captain a team, you are required to take the online captain’s test. This is an annual requirement. If you take the online captain’s test, be sure to mark every potential team you might captain. This includes the summer and fall teams as well, otherwise you will be required to attend the captains meeting for your summer teams. Team forms and fees for the Spring season are due by February 9^th and play begins the weekend of February 24^th. CLEVELAND STATE MATCH: Paramount Westlake wants to invite you to come out and watch some competitive tennis on Friday, January 20th. Cleveland State Men’s team vs. Duquense. Warm-up from 6-7PM, match starts at 7:00PM. WESTLAKE PCT REMINDER: If you have a change in your PCT player rosters, please submit all those changes to Jill at jillm@paramounttennisclub.com, not later than January 10^th. We will be billing your second half PCT charges on your January statement. USTA JUNIOR TOURNAMENT: Paramount Westlake will be hosting a Girl’s USTA tournament, January 20 – 22^nd. Events include Girl’s (18-14)singles, FMLC. Tournament ID – 856404912. Entry deadline is Monday, January 16^th 11:59PM Eastern Time. SUNDAY JUNIOR CHALLENGE MATCHES: The junior challenge match play will begin in Westlake on Sunday, January 8^th and in Medina on Sunday, January 22^nd. Matches are scheduled based on player availability and skill level – both singles and doubles. If you have a son or daughter that would like to participate in the Sunday junior match play or if would like more information about the program, please contact Brad Groleski in Westlake at bgroleski@paramounttennisclub.com and Dean Morse in Medina at dmorse@paramounttennisclub.com. Cost: $13.00/per hour for singles and $7.00/doubles, members only. THANK YOU – CSU FUNDRAISER: Thank you to everyone that came to support the Cleveland State Men’s and Women’s Tennis Team Fundraiser held at Paramount Westlake on December 3^rd. The tennis was awesome with many alumni playing against current players as well as Paramount members and guests. All total… the team raised $4000 in 5 hours. $1000 more than last year! Thank you to everyone that gave a donation, played in the tennis tournament or just came to buy a raffle tickets and bid on auction items. Brian Etzkin and his team, as well as Paramount, appreciate your support of this outstanding Division I program.
